Pursat, Cambodia (FN), Jan.8 — Five people were killed and eight others injured at dawn today when a fuel truck crashed into a van transporting a group of Muslim-Khmer passengers on National Road 5 in Krakor District, Pursat province, police said.
Em Run, Chief of Krakor district police said the dead include three children and one woman and all the injured had been sent to hospital.
All the victims are residents of Kampong Tralach district, Kampong Chnaing province, about 100 Km from Phnom Penh, and were reportedly on their way to Siem Reap to see their children off at Siem Reap Airport for their departure to Korea for work.
“The Phnom Penh-bound fuel truck was traveling on the road when the driver seems to lose control of it and then ran into the van that was traveling to the opposite direction,” said the police officer. He also said the truck driver fled the scene just after the accident.
