PHNOM PENH (FN), Jan. 12 — Foreign lawyers performing their functions illegally in Cambodia are subject to legal actions, said Cambodian Bar president during a workshop this morning.

Bun Hon, Head of Cambodian Bar Association, was quoted by the press after delivering an opening remark to the workshop today on “Lawyers’ Responsibilities” jointly organized by the bar and the Association of Lawyers Without Borders, that within two months the bar would file a legal case against them should they fail to come and register with the bar.

The bar issued an announcement on Dec 28th last year that it had noticed a number of people illegally performing as lawyers and failing to follow the legal procedures and regulations. Some of them were Cambodians while others were expats and were either not lawyers or uncertified ones, the announcement said.
