PHNOM PENH (FN), Jan. 19 — Upon receiving endorsement from the local authorities, the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party will start the installation of its TV antenna as the first step towards the long-awaited TV project in Ta Khmao Municipality, about 15 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, a party official said Tuesday.

CNRP Member of National Assembly, Tok Van Chan, who is in charge of the opposition TV affairs, told the press that the party had now received from Kandal Provincial Cadastral Office the land title for a parcel of over 1,000 square meters in Ta Khmao town of Kandal Province on which a TV station, The Sun TV, would be built.

The CNRP is just now doing paperwork on the transfer of the right to the land, he said.

Van Chan said the delay of the project so far was attributed to bureaucracy around getting the paperwork done because the antenna could not be built on the land before securing a legal land title.

The first opposition-party-aligned television to be set up in Cambodia will need at least an initial budget of $3 million to operate, according to Sam Rainsy, the self-exile CNRP leader.
