PHNOM PENH (FN), Jan. 22 — At least 5,173 illegal Vietnamese were arrested and deported to Vietnam in 2015, a spokesperson of the General Department of Immigration said Friday.

Kem Sarin said Cambodian authorities had arrested a total of 5,808 illegal immigrants (811 women) of 68 different nationalities, of whom 5,173 were Vietnamese. 

To date, the General Department of Immigration has arrested and deported a total of 7,709 illegal immigrants, of whom Vietnamese immigrants represented the largest number of up to 6,744.

Gen. Sok Phal, Director General of the General Department of Interior Ministry said deportation of illegal immigrants from Cambodia would go on, since Cambodia is applying its immigration law on a daily-basis.
