PHNOM PENH (FN), Jan. 25 — According to an opposition Facebook user, opposition party activists are planning to hold a demonstration against Prime Minister Hun Sen when he is on a working visit to California, in the United States, scheduled for next month.
The Facebook message posted on Jan. 25, reads: “Hello Samdech, I would like to let you know that... we, Cambodian-Americans, are planning to hold a non-violent demonstration just to welcome you at Palm Springs, Ca.”
In a similar way he used to address the opposition demonstration against him later last year, the Prime Minister responded by saying that while the opposition had the right to demonstrate in the U.S., his supporters in Cambodia could also hold similar demonstration against the opposition leaders.
“If you think it would be useful for you to hold demonstration against me, please just go ahead, since that is your professional skill,” wrote the Premier in his Facebook reply. “However, please don’t forget to pass on to your leaders both inside and outside of the country that they have to recognize also the right of my supporters to hold demonstration again them in the country,” he added.
The premier also emphasized that although the opposition leaders may deny any involvement with the demonstration, leaked financial reports of the opposition party over the expenses on demonstration in New York on 25 September last year proves it. He therefore suggested that anti-opposition-leaders demonstration in Cambodia is possible.
