Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 25 – Cambodia Ministry of Health announced that as of now the new infectious virus Zika has not been detected in Cambodia, although some foreign media have reported that it has come across the borders from South America to Asia.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Health said that the ministry is closely and carefully monitoring this new disease just as they have done with the others in the past by especially strengthening strict border crossings.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Zika virus could pass on from one person to another through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of Zika diseases are fever, rash, joint pain, and red eyes. If infected to a pregnant woman, it would cause serious problem to the baby that may be born with defects such as a smaller head than usual.
The disease is currently infected to thousands in Columbia and Brazil, and if the trend continues, the number would increase to hundreds of thousands, the government warns.
