Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 28 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), stated that the CPP has been the only political force closely connected with the people for the past 73 years, speaking on Friday (Jun. 28) on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the CPP, held at the CPP’s headquarters.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined that the party has consistently upheld its goals and ideals. These include mobilising the nation with the principles of patriotism, democracy, and peace, and uniting people regardless of their status, ethnicity, religion, or past. The CPP aims to liberate and defend the nation, protect societal achievements, and build an independent, peaceful, free, democratic, neutral, and socially progressive Cambodia.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo added that during the dark period of the Khmer Rouge regime, the CPP led the struggle to overthrow this brutal regime and achieved a historic victory on 7 January 1979. This victory revived the nation and restored the rights and freedoms of the people that were completely lost under the Pol Pot regime.

Following the 7 January Victory Day, the CPP continued to lead the people in promoting national unity to prevent the resurgence of the genocidal regime and rebuild the country from the devastation.

Samdech Techo underscored, “We cannot describe all the obstacles and difficulties that we have encountered and overcome over the past 45 years, but we can proudly claim great achievements. It is the history of our accomplishments in restoring, constructing, and developing society, starting from the devastation caused by genocide and chronic civil war to the present situation where the entire nation is at peace, united, and progressing in all sectors.”
