PHNOM PENH (FN), Feb. 4 — President of the royalist party, FUNCINPEC, balked at his former deputy who has left him to form a new party for appropriation in regard of the new party’s logo and name, according to an official letter made available to the press on Feb.4.

In the letter addressed to Minister of Interior Sar Kheng, Prince Norodom Ranariddh complained that the logo of the new party formed by former FUNCINPEC Vice-President, Nhek Bun Chhay, was almost identical to that of FUNCINPEC and that the name was also similar to that of a party that has already been established.

“As president of FUNCINPEC, I will not allow any individual nor any group to hold a congress and form a new political party to replace the current FUNCINPEC,” said Prince Ranariddh.

Bun Chhay yesterday, on Feb.3, in his position of Second-Vice President of FUNCINPEC, held a press conference to launch a new political party named “National United Party” carrying a logo closely identical to that of FUNCINPEC.
