Vientiane (FN), Oct. 10 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both nations and their peoples.

The two leaders met on 9 October 2024 in Vientiane, Laos, on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and related summits.

On the occasion, Thai prime minister expressed her gratitude to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet for being the first to send a congratulatory message upon her election as prime minister. She also noted with satisfaction the continued development of relations and cooperation between the two countries following Samdech Thipadei's official visit to Thailand in February 2024.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei commended the progress in Cambodia-Thailand relations, which were elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2024.

Both sides discussed further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation in various areas, including resuming bilateral mechanism meetings, exploring the possibility of regional economic integration, enhancing complementary special economic zones, fostering people-to-people ties, promoting tourism, and advancing defence and security cooperation.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to continue expanding bilateral relations and entrusted their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs with facilitating further discussions on these topics. The two countries will also organise activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Cambodia-Thailand diplomatic relations in 2025.
