PHNOM PENH (FN) Feb. 10 – A Phnom Penh Municipal Court official said on Feb. 10 that the 23 South Korean nationals arrested by the Ministry of Interior last week, have been remanded in custody for involvement in illegal gambling pending further investigation. Of the 23 suspects, 2 were charged for operating illegal gambling while 21 others were charged of being gambling brokers.

The 23 South Koreans were arrested on Feb. 5, 2016 by the Anti-Terrorism and Trans-border Police Department of the Ministry of Interior initially on suspicion of running an extortion ring via VoIP, in Rong Chak Village, Phnom Penh Thmey commune, Sen Sok District.

In the raid, police searched two mansions and arrestex 12 suspects in Mansion No. 15, and 11 other suspects in Mansion No. 27, in Borey Piphob Thmey. Police had also seized a number of equipment and computer-appliances connected to Internet as well as other accessories.
