PHNOM PENH (FN) Feb. 10 – Former Director of an orphan center in Phnom Penh who was arrested last year was convicted on Feb. 10, by Phnom Penh Municipal Court and sentenced to three years in prison for sexually abusing a dozen of children in his center.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court Judge, Kim Ratnarin, said Hang Vibol, male, 46, former Director of orphanage, Our Home, was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison, with a fine of 8 million Riels ($2,000) and another 30 million riels ($7,500) for damage for sexually abusing a dozen of children living in his center between 2009 and 2014.

Judge Kim Ratnarin said Vibol was charged with “indecent acts against minors under fifteen within aggravating circumstances” under article 248 of the Penal Code.

He added that Vibol was arrested by Ministry of Interior’s Anti Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department on March 2, 2015 upon complaints from children living in his orphan center.

Convicted Hang Vibol said the court decision was unjust for him and that he will take the case to the appeal court soon.
