Banteay Meanchey (FN), Nov. 29 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that 2024 marks the 26th anniversary of Cambodia achieving peace and national unity, marking the longest period of sustained peace in the kingdom’s history.
According to Samdech Thipadei, the Royal Government designated 29 December 1998 as the end of the war by Samdech Techo's win-win policy. By 29 December 2024, this peace will have lasted for 26 years.
The premier spoke on Friday (Nov. 29) at the inauguration of new achievements in Boeng Chungrok Techo Win-Win development zone in Banteay Meanchey Province.
“With just one month remaining, 29 December will mark the 26th anniversary, which we call ‘Peace Day.’ The Royal Government issued a sub-decree in 2023, and this year will be the first year we celebrate by designating 29 December 2024 as a public holiday,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei also highlighted that Samdech Techo’s Win-Win Policy, which brought an end to five centuries of conflict, introduced two unprecedented milestones in Cambodia’s history. First, the end of war and the unification of national territory. Second, over the past 500 years, only in the past 26 years has Cambodia experienced lasting peace.
