Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 6 – Cambodian and Laotian prime ministers called for the opening of a new border crossing between Cambodia's Ratanakkiri Province and Laos' Attapeu Province to promote trade, tourism, transportation, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held a bilateral talk with Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on 4 December 2024.

In addition to urging the establishment of this border crossing, the two leaders encouraged the relevant ministries and authorities of both nations to expedite the selection of a site for the construction of a bridge connecting Tonle Pov in Cambodia's Preah Vihear Province and the Selampao River in Laos' Champasak Province.

Both leaders strongly believe that this bridge project will enhance trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, while also contributing to greater connectivity within the Greater Mekong Subregion.
