SIEM REAP, Cambodia (FN), Feb. 13 — A girl was beheaded in a guesthouse in Siem Reap Municipality on Feb. 13, after she had rejected a marriage arrangement with a married man with three children who became furious with her, provincial officials said.

The victim was identified by her mother as Len Seila, 24, from Knat commune, Puok district, Siem Reap province, about 300km south west of Phnom Penh.

Provincial Governor Khim Bunsong said on Feb.14, that two murder suspects were apprehended at around 7 pm, Feb. 13. One of the two suspects was arrested when trying to burn off the girl’s body-less head behind his home at Prey Chas village, Kork Chork district, Siem Reap town, near the airport, said the governor.

Ou Sophal, Deputy Chief of Criminal Office, Siem Reap Provincial Police, said the murder was committed out of a love triangle. The suspect had already been married but later on was at odds with his wife and so was seeking a divorce, said the police officer.

At the same time, the suspect started to approach and get an engagement with the victim. However, the intended marriage could not be organized because the divorce proceedings have not yet been completed, the officer added.

Feeling cheated by the suspect, the victim started to have heated arguments with the suspect. The disagreement finally ended up with the suspect setting up the murder plot, the officer said.

One of the murder suspects was identified by the police as Sam Phearath, 40, born in the neighboring Battambang province, about 280 km south west of Phnom Penh. He is currently remanded in custody for interrogation.
