Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 17 – Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to Samdech Techo Hun Sen for his remarkable leadership in reviving Buddhism and Khmer monasteries.

The king praised Hun Sen’s contributions to strengthening social stability and peace, in line with the guiding principle of "Nation, Religion, and King."

The king spoke on Monday (Feb. 17) at inauguration of the Grand Palace of Samdech Sangharach Chuon Nath, Khmer Manuscripts Research and Preservation Institute and achievements at Wat Ounalom Monastery.

King Sihamoni underlined that Buddhist monasteries play an integral role in Cambodian society, serving as a pillar of daily life and national development. He highlighted that monasteries and society are inseparable, reinforcing Cambodia’s cultural and spiritual identity.

Furthermore, the king underscored the sacred role of Cambodian Buddhist monasteries throughout history, outlining four key contributions:

First, Khmer monasteries have long promoted morality and virtue, fostering harmony in both religion and society.

Second, Khmer monasteries serve as centres for both physical and mental education, equipping individuals with knowledge and wisdom.

Third, Khmer monasteries act as repositories of Cambodian traditions, cultural ideas, and knowledge, providing invaluable resources for research and study.

Fourth, Khmer monasteries are essential in preserving the nation’s heritage, ensuring that Cambodia’s cultural and spiritual legacy endures for future generations.
