Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 21 – Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government and Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), announced that a US-funded organisation, which partners with CMAC Cambodia, will resume cooperation in mine and UXO clearance in Cambodia under the existing contract following authorisation from the US government.

Speaking to Fresh News on 20 February 2025, Heng Ratana stated, “CMAC has received confirmation from the US-funded organisation, our partner, that it has been granted a waiver by the US government to resume cooperation in mine and UXO clearance under the existing contract.”

“Resuming cooperation under the existing contract means that we will proceed with the agreed operations, beginning immediately and continuing until early November,” he added.

Heng Ratana further expressed gratitude on behalf of CMAC’s leadership and staff, stating, “We extend our sincere appreciation to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet for his support in appealing to the US government. We also thank our development partners, officials from the US Embassy in Cambodia, and project officers from the US Department of State for their tireless efforts in securing an exemption for the mine action project in Cambodia. Above all, we are especially grateful to the US government for prioritising its assistance in supporting mine and UXO clearance activities.”
