Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that Cambodia upholds religious harmony and preserves unity among different ethnic and religious communities while rejecting extremist tendencies.
The premier spoke on Friday (Mar. 14) at the showering ceremony of Samdech Buddhist Monks at Wat Botum Vathey.
Samdech Thipadei underscored that while Buddhism is the state religion, freedom of belief and the practice of other religions are fully guaranteed, provided they do not interfere with other faiths.
“In Cambodia, Buddhism is the state religion, and freedom of belief and the practice of other religions are guaranteed, provided they do not infringe upon other faiths. Indeed, Cambodia upholds religious harmony and preserves the values of solidarity among different ethnic and religious groups while rejecting extremist tendencies,” the premier underscored.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei expressed his deep appreciation for the significant progress in the field of worship and religion, as highlighted in the welcoming speech and report by Minister of Cults and Religion Chay Borin. He noted that today’s showering ceremony of Samdech Buddhist Monks stands as further testament to the flourishing state of Buddhism in Cambodia, where the people continue to live under the shadow of peace.
The premier added that Buddhism is a cherished heritage of the Khmer ancestors. The Buddha’s teachings—rooted in love, wisdom, and mental tranquillity—have profoundly influenced the consciousness, mindset, emotions, behaviour, and actions of the Khmer people. These values are clearly reflected in their friendly, honest, humble, gentle, and steadfast character.
