Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed provincial and capital authorities, along with all relevant institutions and branches of the armed forces, to enhance security, safety, and public order during the upcoming Khmer New Year, which will be celebrated in the coming days. This year, the Angkor Sangkran festivities will be held nationwide in a grand fashion to mark the New Year and attract tourists.
The premier spoke during the weekly plenary meeting on 4 April 2025 at the Peace Palace.
Samdech Thipadei added that local authorities must also reinforce their readiness to respond promptly and effectively to any actions aimed at creating unrest, chaos, or insecurity. He urged a high level of vigilance in safeguarding national and international guests, leaders, and citizens from all walks of life throughout the festive period.
Prime Minister Hun Manet also called on provincial and capital administrations to cooperate with private companies and business owners to ensure that the prices of food, drinks, and services remain reasonable during the traditional New Year celebrations.
Furthermore, the premier reminded the public of the 50,000-riel New Year subsidy for civil servants, and the government’s provision of free public bus services for citizens travelling between Phnom Penh and the provinces. The six-day travel scheme, running from 12 to 17 April 2025, aims to ease the financial burden of millions of dollars in travel expenses for citizens during the holiday.
Samdech Thipadei expressed his sincere appreciation to all relevant ministries, institutions, and security forces—especially the Ministry of Interior, the National Police, the National Military Police Command, and the Unified Commands of the provincial and capital administrations—for their dedicated efforts and successful preparations.
