Tboung Khmum (FN), Apr. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that China has contributed approximately USD 3 billion towards the construction of roads and bridges in Cambodia, significantly enhancing national connectivity. He emphasised that the strong relationship between Cambodia and China remains unchanged, as reflected in numerous development achievements, including critical infrastructure projects.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Apr. 12) during the inauguration of National Road 71C connecting Tbong Khmum-Kampong Cham.

Samdech Thipadei expressed his sincere appreciation to Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, requesting that the message of gratitude be conveyed to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its support in constructing National Road 71C—an essential national route for connectivity and transportation across the country.

The premier stressed that China is an irreplaceable friend to Cambodia, having continuously supported the Kingdom’s socioeconomic development. Among Cambodia’s development partners, China stands out as a top-tier ally, consistently providing financial support through concessional loans and grants, especially in the infrastructure sector.

“To date, China has provided more than USD 3 billion to help improve the quality of roads and connectivity across Cambodia and the wider region,” the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet that, in terms of diplomatic relations, Cambodia and China will commemorate the 67th anniversary of their official diplomatic ties in 2025, which were established on 19 July 1958. He recalled that Cambodian-Chinese relations have steadily strengthened, evolving into a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership since late December 2010.

With this close and respectful partnership, Samdech Thipadei noted that both countries have designated 2025 as the “Cambodia-China Tourism Year” to boost tourism collaboration and promote Cambodia as a key destination for the Chinese market. This initiative also aims to deepen their comprehensive partnership and further support the Cambodia-China “Diamond Cooperation” framework, which envisions a community of shared future marked by high standards and mutual benefit in the new era.

On behalf of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, Premier Hun Manet extended heartfelt thanks to the Chinese government and people, acknowledging them as key partners in Cambodia’s development across all sectors. He particularly thanked the Chinese leadership for pledging further grants, concessional loans, increased investment, and reinforced economic cooperation—all provided without complex conditions.

Moreover, the premier reiterated that Cambodia-China relations remain steadfast. He highlighted the enduring friendship as demonstrated by infrastructure achievements and high-level visits, including that of the Chinese President. He reaffirmed that both countries continue to uphold mutual respect for each other's rights and sovereignty.

It is worth noting that, according to a report by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), China ranked as the top foreign investor in Cambodia in 2024, with investment totalling USD 3.45 billion. The report revealed that Chinese investment accounted for approximately 50 per cent of Cambodia’s total foreign direct investment, valued at USD 6.9 billion in 2024.
