(Sihanoukville): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all citizens to unite in safeguarding national peace, urging them not to be influenced by incitement or rhetoric intended to destabilise the country, speaking on Thursday (May 1) during his meeting with civil servants, staff, and workers of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

Samdech Thipadei added that preserving peace is a shared responsibility — not only for the wellbeing of others, but also for the security of one’s own family — and highlighted that national peace and unity are essential foundations for sustained happiness.

Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that national development, particularly in the commercial sector, extends beyond the port itself to encompass the entire Sihanoukville province and coastal region. These areas — along with the broader national economy — continue to grow under the umbrella of peace and security, made possible by the government’s consistent and effective policies. He expressed his sincere appreciation to all workers and personnel for their dedication, which has contributed to improved port operations and the strengthening of Cambodia’s logistics sector.

“This is precisely the kind of progress that we should all support — not by halting work, striking, or setting fire to public buildings and factories in response to incitement. Those who encourage such actions only lead you down the wrong path. I call on everyone to stand united. Cambodia may not be perfect or fully prosperous yet, but we are working to improve it. We are laying the foundations for steady progress through strategic policies and ongoing reform,” the premier underscored.

“I sincerely thank everyone who has chosen to walk this path together. Whether our progress is great or modest, we must continue to move forward. Among Cambodia’s 17 million citizens, it is natural that not everyone will share the same view — but I believe that the vast majority truly desire peace, stability, and continued advancement, not regression,” Samdech Thipadei continued.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that even if not all citizens fully appreciate the value of peace, they should at the very least consider their own wellbeing and that of their families. Peace and personal prosperity are rooted in national unity — and it is peace that makes such unity possible. Even if one does not reflect on the national interest, one should recognise the direct benefits of being able to live in peace.
