(Tokyo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Okumura Yusuke, President of Koa Shoji Co., Ltd., and his associates during the prime minister’s official working visit to Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday (May 28).
During the meeting, Okumura expressed his deep appreciation to the prime minister for taking time out of his busy schedule to receive them. He briefed the prime minister on the company’s operations in Cambodia, which began in 2015 in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on waste recycling projects in Svay Rieng province.
Currently, the company is operating a recycling business in Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ), transforming plastic waste into reusable materials for both domestic consumption and export.
Okumura shared that the company is now partnering with Japanese firms to expand its operations further, introducing new recycling concepts such as mobile recycling units and container-based processing. The company has also cooperated with several Cambodian provinces to distribute waste bins and has worked with the Ministry of Environment and schools on hygiene education and waste collection campaigns.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its consistent support over the past decade.
In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his satisfaction and high appreciation for the company’s business operations in Cambodia. He reaffirmed that the Cambodian government values all direct investors and continues to implement policies and support mechanisms to encourage such investments.
Samdech Thipadei noted that with Cambodia’s rapid development and growing population, the volume of waste is increasing. Hence, the company’s recycling efforts—especially in transforming plastic and other waste into reusable products—are vital. He assured continued government support and encouragement for the expansion of such environmentally significant business activities.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also urged the company to continue working with relevant government ministries and agencies to contribute to waste reduction and management efforts in Cambodia.
