(Tokyo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his sincere appreciation to Japan for its support in developing the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a major regional port and logistics centre.
His statement was made on 30 May 2025 during a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru in Tokyo, Japan.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness and ongoing commitment to advancing shared prosperity in the areas of trade, investment, and innovation. He added that Cambodia offers a liberal investment law, incentives with flexibility, and a well-established consultation mechanism with Japanese businesses.
Samdech Thipadei stated, “With regard to infrastructure connectivity, I would like to express my gratitude to our Japanese friends for supporting the development of Sihanoukville Port into a regional port and logistics hub.”
On the occasion, the premier also expressed confidence that Cambodia and Japan would continue to foster closer ties between their peoples through cooperation in education, employment, and tourism.
On the occasion, the prime minister added that Cambodia is prepared to contribute to meeting Japan's skilled labour demands through technical internship programs and skilled labour deployments. Upon their return to Cambodia, these workers are expected to bring back valuable skills and a high sense of professional responsibility.
It is noteworthy that the master plan for the development of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a regional port and logistics centre aims to enhance the efficiency and quality of Cambodia’s logistics infrastructure. This development will boost the operational capacity and services of the port, making it stronger and more competitive, while reducing transportation costs in Cambodia. It will also strengthen the country's competitiveness with major regional ports, contributing significantly to Cambodia’s national economic development in line with its vision to become an upper-middle-income country by 2050.
