(Phnom Penh): Cambodian and Thai border affairs delegations officially convened a meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC) on land boundary demarcation and marker installation. The meeting took place at the Sofitel Hotel in Phnom Penh.
This date marks the 25th anniversary of the 2000 Cambodia–Thailand Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2000)—a key reference document Cambodia consistently invokes during efforts to resolve border disputes with Thailand. It also marks the first JBC meeting since the armed clashes on 28 May 2025.
The Cambodian delegation is led by Lam Chea, Minister in charge of the Secretariat of Border Affairs. The Thai delegation is represented by Prasas Prasasvinitchai, Advisor to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Border Affairs—himself a senior diplomat and veteran of past negotiations over the Preah Vihear conflict.
Prior to the main session, both sides also held a retreat meeting with only 10 participants—five from Cambodia and five from Thailand. However, the outcomes of the meeting have not yet been disclosed by either side.
