(Preah Vihear): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, strongly criticized Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for labelling the public social media statements by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet concerning the Cambodia–Thailand border issue as "unprofessional." He called the remark a grave insult and completely unacceptable.
Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 27) during a meeting with members of the provincial, city, district, commune, and sangkat councils in Preah Vihear province.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed that the term “unprofessional” is not appropriate to use when referring to heads of state or political leaders. He added that the indiscreet remarks from the Thai prime minister led to the recent leak of a private phone conversation between himself and Paetongtarn, as well as growing scrutiny over the Thaksin family.
He stated:“Ung Ing [nickname for the Thai prime minister] insulted Hun Sen, insulted Hun Manet, accusing us of being unprofessional. This is entirely wrong, Your Excellency. This is an unprecedented insult. It is the first time I have ever received such a remark. Calling us unprofessional is a serious offense, and it has led me to respond in kind by exposing the truth. From now on, remember: the term ‘unprofessional’ is not appropriate language for politicians to use among one another.”
On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also advised the Thai prime minister to consider international examples, referencing US President Donald Trump, who regularly used social media to release official announcements, including military directives.
He questioned: “In this digital era, when sharing information with the public through social media is the norm, how can one say it’s unprofessional? It’s precisely this baseless accusation that led to the leaked audio of my conversation with the Thai prime minister on 17 June 2025.”
