(Preah Vihear): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen confirmed that on 2 July 2025, all leaders of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) will gather in Prey Veng province to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of Samdech Chea Sim, and the 16th anniversary of the passing of Samdech Chea Sim’s wife.

Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 27) during a meeting with members of the provincial, city, district, commune, and sangkat councils in Preah Vihear province.

The Senate President reaffirmed that although Samdech Chea Sim has passed away, all CPP leaders will continue to gather in Prey Veng province to honor his legacy. “We have not forgotten him,” he said, emphasizing that Samdech Chea Sim was a first-generation leader of the Cambodian movement, and that true comrades do not abandon one another.

Additionally, Samdech Techo mentioned that the prime minister of Singapore is scheduled for an official visit on 2 July 2025. However, Samdech requested that a preliminary meeting be held earlier, allowing sufficient time for him to travel to Prey Veng as planned.

He further noted that after the official talks between the Cambodian Prime Minister and the Singaporean Prime Minister have concluded, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will also head to Prey Veng to join the commemoration ceremony for Samdech Chea Sim and his wife.

It is worth noting that Samdech Chea Sim was a prominent political figure who played a leading role in the resistance movement against the Khmer Rouge and in the pursuit of peace in Cambodia. He passed away at 3:45 p.m. on 8 June 2015, at the age of 83, due to natural causes.
