(Preah Vihear): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen questioned why the Thai side, which has accused Cambodia of territorial encroachment, has not pursued legal action. “Only those who lack integrity fear the legal process,” Samdech Techo said.

Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 27) during a meeting with members of the provincial, city, district, commune, and sangkat councils in Preah Vihear province.

“I find it puzzling that Thailand has accused Cambodia of encroaching on its territory. If that is truly the case, why does Thailand not have the courage to take the matter to court? I ask Bangkok directly. If you claim Cambodia has violated Thai sovereignty, why not file a complaint with the international court? Why refuse to pursue legal proceedings? I call on the Thai people, the Cambodian people, and the international community to consider this issue carefully,” Samdech Techo underscored.

Samdech Techo continued, “Why are they afraid of the court? If Cambodia were truly in the wrong, then take legal action. In any country, if one party is dissatisfied, they should bring the case to court. The world has institutions of international justice for precisely this reason.”

Samdech further noted that the Thai leadership should not fear engaging with the legal process. If a court ruling is issued, it will assist each government in explaining the matter to their citizens more clearly, he added.

Samdech Techo continued, “Why has Thailand rejected the legal path? Frankly speaking, only those who lack integrity fear the rule of law.”
