(Preah Vihear): Cambodian President of Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, told Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra not to lecture him on virtue, adding she is a young person who had shown disrespect towards an elder.
Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 27) during a meeting with members of the provincial, city, district, commune, and sangkat councils in Preah Vihear province.
Samdech Techo recalled previous occasions when Paetongtarn Shinawatra had disrespected him and revealed that she had criticised Thai military during a phone conversation with him. As a leader, he had never criticized his own officials in front of foreign counterparts.
“Please, do not speak to me about virtue when you are a young person who has disrespected an elder,” Samdech Tech underscored.
While acknowledging that Paetongtarn Shinawatra is the Prime Minister of Thailand, Samdech Techo noted that she must also recognise that he too holds a position of power as Cambodia’s second-highest leader after the king.
He also pointed out that there is no law forbidding voice recordings of telephone conversations. In any country, when calls are made, recordings may be kept as documentation, especially for international relations. He added that in the current era, whenever interpretation booths are used, conversations are recorded, since manual note-taking is not always feasible.
Moreover, Samdech Techo declared that anyone who wants to file a lawsuit against him in Thai courts is free to do so, affirming that he is not afraid. He emphasised that he resides in Cambodia, not Thailand, and thus Thai courts have no jurisdiction over him, even if sued 5,000 times, he would not be intimidated.
