PHNOM PENH (FN), Feb. 21 — A former Chief Accountant of a housing firm, Piphup Thmey Group, and her spouse were arrested on Feb. 19, by the Military Police’s Crimes Office, said a military police official.
The arrests were made upon a legal complaint by Attorney Pih Vannak, legal representative for Oknha Pyv, owner of Piphub Thmey Group, who lodged a complaint against Phat Charya, the firm’s former Chief Accountant, for embezzling a total amount of $370,000 of the firm’s money and gave it her spouse who has lost all to gambling. The suspect has now been in detention at the National Military Police headquarters.
In a public notice issued on Feb.20, Piphup Thmey Group said that the former Chief Accountant had embezzled the firm’s money, and thus committing a crime of breach of trust. All her detailed information was provided in the public notice.
