(Kampong Cham): Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina confirmed that the ministry will support citizens who have received land under the Royal Government’s “Land Allocation for Forest Protection” policy by helping organise them into modern agricultural communities to improve their livelihoods.
Minister Dith Tina spoke on Wednesday (Jul. 9) during the celebration of “Arbor Day” held in Chamkar Leu District, Kampong Cham Province.
Minister Dith Tina said that the Royal Government has introduced the "Land Allocation for Forest Protection" policy in the form of social land concessions. This initiative aims to prevent illegal encroachment on state land, enhance the conservation of natural resources, and improve the productivity of state land use. It also assists landless citizens by providing them with land for agricultural activities and livelihoods while protecting nearby forests and forested land.
To date, the Royal Government has received applications from more than 12,000 households across over 1,000 communes or quarters nationwide. From these, a lottery process selected the first 2,500 families to receive land and relocate to Sesan District, Stung Treng Province. Infrastructure planning and construction have also been arranged to support the residents’ living conditions.
The minister added, “The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will participate by organising and establishing modern agricultural communities to support and uplift the livelihoods of those who have voluntarily relocated.”
