Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 29 - 184 of blue berets from Cambodia today started their trainings with real ammunitions to carry out the United Nations Peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in mid-January 2018.

Lebanon has a difficulty in maintaining peace and security as threatened by rebel group, who attacked the UN troops. Therefore, these 184 blue berets have been trained on horizontal and vertical construction skills, mine clearance and undiscovered mines skills, healthcare, national and international law, human rights, criminal law, war crimes, and psychological education, according to Hout Kimsan, Deputy Director General of the National Center for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and ERW Clearance (NPMEC).

Huot Kimsan further added that trainings were provided for three months by professionals from the United States, China, India, France, Japan, officials from UNMASS, and other countries who are friends with Cambodia.

The troops will shoot real ammunitions today after three-month training.

The firearms they have to practice today include 184 of AK-47, 50 of PKMS, 15 of 12.7 guns type, and the APC 14.5 mm gunships on armored vehicles.

Since 2006, Cambodia has sent 5,000 Cambodian peacekeepers, including 200 women to participate in eight countries such as Sudan, South Sudan, South Africa, Central African Republic, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, and Mali.

Cambodia is the second largest among ASEAN Member States to send peacekeepers under UN framework.
