(Siem Reap): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to expanding investment in gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across key sectors, including the economy, education, healthcare, and public leadership.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 16) during an opening ceremony of the 39th World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the 42nd OB-PS annual event, under the theme: “We See, We Care, We Act”, held in Siem Reap province.
“The Royal Government has continued to increase investment in gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls to harness the benefits of the gender dividend, support women’s decision-making rights, reduce vulnerability to gender-based violence, and promote stronger intergenerational relations,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said.
He underlined that women are not only beneficiaries of peace but also vital contributors to building and sustaining peace at the family, community, national, and international levels.
“We believe that a girl who receives a quality education, lives in safety, has self-confidence, and is given opportunities to participate in society can transform not only her own life, but also the lives of her family, community, and nation,” he said.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that the Royal Government continues to prioritise human capital development through education, healthcare, social protection, and expanded opportunities for women and youth to play a greater role in national development.
On the occasion, the prime minister also noted that Cambodia has earned international recognition for its contribution of female peacekeepers to United Nations missions. Between 2006 and 2025, Cambodia deployed 10,447 peacekeeping personnel to missions abroad, including 990 women.
