(Siem Reap): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia is proud to present its modern image to the world, noting that many first-time visitors are pleasantly surprised when they experience the country firsthand.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 39th WAGGGS World Conference and the 42nd OB-PS Annual Event in Siem Reap on Tuesday (Jun. 16), the premier said the reality of Cambodia often differs significantly from perceptions shaped by certain foreign media reports.

“On the sacred land of Siem Reap-Angkor, we are honoured to showcase the new face of Cambodia and the true reality of our country,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said. “Many foreign friends who visit Cambodia for the first time are genuinely surprised because what they see with their own eyes is very different from what they may have previously heard or read.”

He noted that visiting Cambodia allows international guests to witness the country’s peace, stability, security, and rapid development, achievements that have enabled the Kingdom to successfully host major regional and international events.

The prime minister also recalled meeting members of the OB-PS delegation at Siem Reap’s Pub Street on the evening of June 15, where visitors experienced the vibrant atmosphere and growing tourism appeal of the historic city.

“We are proud to present the modern face of Cambodia. Everyone here can see our progress and our peace,” he said. “Peace is the foundation of everything. Without peace, we could not speak about education, development, women’s participation, or the future of our youth.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei emphasised that lasting peace has enabled Cambodia to rebuild infrastructure, expand educational and employment opportunities, strengthen social welfare, and welcome international partners to exchange knowledge, experience, and friendship with the Cambodian people.

He added that Cambodia’s hosting of the WAGGGS World Conference and the OB-PS Meeting reflects growing international confidence in the Kingdom and provides an important platform to engage with global movements promoting leadership, community service, responsibility, and the advancement of girls and young women.

Addressing the conference theme, “We See, We Care, We Act,” Prime Minister Hun Manet described it as a simple yet powerful message that encourages awareness, compassion, and meaningful action in building a better future.
