(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodi, received a courtesy call from Uladzimir Baravikou, Ambassador of Belarus to Cambodia, at the Senate Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Friday morning (Jun. 19).
Samdech Techo expressed satisfaction with the positive results achieved in relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Belarus. He also emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, and national defense.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo warmly welcomed the ambassador and expressed pleasure in meeting him. He also highlighted the strong relations between Cambodia and Belarus and expressed hope that the ambassador’s mission would further strengthen bilateral ties.
The Belarusian ambassador thanked Samdech Techo for granting him the meeting. He noted that relations between the two countries have existed for a long time and recalled Samdech Techo’s visit to Belarus in the past, particularly in 2014 when he was prime minister, which contributed to strengthening ties between the two nations.
He further stated that Cambodia and Belarus share similar objectives and therefore should continue to enhance their cooperation. He also pointed out significant untapped potential for further collaboration between the two countries.
The ambassador suggested strengthening cooperation between executive and legislative institutions. Within the executive framework, he emphasized the need to boost trade and economic exchanges. He also noted Belarus’s interest in investing in Cambodia, particularly in agricultural tractors to support the agricultural sector.
In addition, he proposed establishing direct flights between the two countries to promote closer people-to-people ties and boost tourism. He also encouraged expanding scholarship programs and student exchanges between Cambodia and Belarus.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed appreciation for the ambassador’s proposals to enhance trade, economic, and investment cooperation between the two countries.
He underlined that Cambodia and Belarus should further expand cooperation in the field of national defense and other sectors to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations.
