(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet had an informal chat with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Kazan, Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit.

In a message posted on his social media on Friday (Jun. 19), Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet wrote:

“I had an informal chat with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Kazan, Russian Federation. I reiterated Cambodia's position related to Cambodia-Thailand border issue:

1. Cambodia adheres to peaceful resolution in accordance with international law regarding border issue with Thailand.

2. Regarding maritime border, both sides should continue to proceed with Compulsory Conciliation under UNCLOS, which both Cambodia and Thailand are already engaged in.

3. Regarding land border, up until now Cambodia still chooses existing bilateral mechanism, which is the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in accordance with existing agreements. However, Cambodia urges Thailand to appoint its JBC chief and to begin joint survey and demarcation works as soon as possible, in accordance with Joint Statement of 27 December 2025, Point #3, which both Cambodia and Thailand signed.

4. Regarding the opening of land border, no need to talk at this time.”
