(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and Japan signed an agreement on a JPY 17.776 billion (approximately USD 119 million) concessional loan to support the Sihanoukville Port New Container Terminal Development Project (II), according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Tuesday (Jul. 14).

The exchange of notes and related documents was signed by Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi.

The project aims to improve the container cargo handling capacity of the Sihanoukville port, the only international deep-sea port in Cambodia, as well as logistic efficacy of Cambodia by developing new container terminal and its related infrastructure.

The continued financial assistance demonstrates Japan's firm commitment to promoting trade and socio-economic development in Cambodia, as well as further strengthening the Cambodia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
