(Phnom Penh): On 11 July 2026, the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum marked the first anniversary of the inscription of the Cambodian Memorial Sites: From Centres of Repression to Places of Peace and Reflection on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The commemoration brought together UNESCO Representative to Cambodia Flavio Bonetti, survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime, government representatives, museum staff, development partners, and communities to honour the important milestone and reaffirm the shared commitment to preserve memory, promote education, and strengthen a culture of peace.

The UNESCO inscription not only recognises Cambodia's historical significance but also underscores the responsibility to safeguard the memorial sites for future generations.

UNESCO also expressed its appreciation to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for its continued support through the Peace Project, which contributes to the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of Cambodia's memorial heritage.
