(Beijing): Fang Yanshui, President of China Machinery Engineering Corporation Group (CMEC), said Cambodia's political stability and strong economic growth have reinforced the company's confidence in expanding its investments in the kingdom.
CMEC President Fang made the remarks during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Wednesday afternoon (Jul. 15) in Beijing.
During the meeting, the CMEC president thanked the Royal Government and relevant ministries for their continued support, which has contributed to CMEC's successful operations in Cambodia. He said the country's stable political environment and sustained development provide a strong foundation for long-term investment.
Fang also briefed the prime minister on CMEC's operations in Cambodia. Since entering the market in 2008, the company has focused on the energy and infrastructure sectors and is currently working with local partners to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fired power plant in Koh Kong province.
He underlined that the project will contribute to Cambodia's long-term energy security and energy independence. CMEC is also exploring further investment opportunities in the energy and agriculture sectors and is encouraging other Chinese companies to invest in Cambodia's high-potential industries.
For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated CMEC on its international achievements and welcomed the company's continued investment in Cambodia, particularly its cooperation on the LNG power project.
The prime minister emphasized that energy remains a strategic priority for Cambodia, with energy security playing a vital role in supporting sustainable economic development. He added that expanding the country's energy capacity is intended not only to meet domestic demand but also to support future electricity exports to neighbouring ASEAN countries through the ASEAN Power Grid initiative.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to providing a supportive investment environment and welcomed CMEC's plans to expand into other high-potential sectors in Cambodia.
