(Beijing): China’s Haier Group partnered with a Cambodian company to establish the country’s first tablet assembly plant, aiming to expand access to affordable digital devices and support Cambodia's digital transformation. The project will produce low-cost tablets for school students, university students, and workers in the informal economy, helping improve access to technology and promote remote learning.

The investment plan was presented during a courtesy meeting on Wednesday (Jul. 15) between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Haier Group Vice President Diao Yunfeng.

During the meeting, Diao briefed the prime minister on Haier's global operations, noting that the company is a leading provider of smart home appliances and digital solutions, with operations in more than 60 countries and a global user base of around 44 million.

He said the partnership with a Cambodian firm reflects Haier's commitment to supporting the Kingdom's digital development through local manufacturing.

For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Haier Group on its global achievements and reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment through investment incentives and supportive policies.

The prime minister welcomed the tablet assembly project, describing it as an important step in advancing Cambodia's digital transformation, particularly in education and human resource development.

Samdech Thipadei also encouraged the company to continue working closely with its Cambodian partners and relevant ministries to maximize the benefits of the country's investment incentives and explore further opportunities for expansion.

Haier Group is one of the world’s largest multinational household appliance and electronics companies, headquartered in Qingdao, China. Its business operations include Smart Home Business, IoT (Internet of Things) Ecosystem, and Smart Energy & Industrial Internet.
