(Beijing): China Energy International, one of China’s leading engineering, power, and infrastructure construction companies, expressed interest in expanding its investment operations in Cambodia.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call from Qiao Xubin, President of China Energy International Group Co., Ltd., on Wednesday (Jul. 16) in Beijing.
During the meeting, Qiao briefed the prime minister on the company’s business operations in Cambodia and expressed deep appreciation to the relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions for their continued cooperation and strong support for the company’s business activities.
He said the company initially focused on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for major energy infrastructure projects and is now looking to broaden its investment portfolio.
Qiao added that China Energy International is pleased to contribute to the development of Cambodia's energy sector and is exploring opportunities in cement production, water treatment, and renewable energy.
For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet highly valued the company’s confidence and decision to invest in Cambodia and welcomed its intention to expand investment into other potential sectors.
The prime minister noted that clean energy remains a key government priority, with renewable sources currently accounting for around 62 per cent of Cambodia's energy mix. He said the government aims to increase that share to 70 per cent by 2030 while also adopting advanced technologies to improve the efficiency and capacity of the country's power generation.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to supporting investors and encouraged the company to continue working closely with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to advance its investment projects.
