(Shanghai): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), which officially commenced on Friday (Jul. 17) in Shanghai, China.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Chinese President Xi Jinping and attended by heads of state and government, as well as representatives of international organizations from around the world.

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) is one of the world's leading international events dedicated to the latest advancements, technologies, and trends in artificial intelligence (AI). It serves as a global platform for political leaders, renowned scientists, AI experts, and technology innovators to exchange research, share innovative ideas, and discuss the future direction of AI.

The conference also features exhibitions by more than 1,100 leading technology companies, showcasing their latest AI products, technologies, and solutions. Policymakers and industry leaders are expected to discuss AI governance, ethics, and the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Established in 2018, WAIC is held annually in Shanghai, one of China's major economic and technological hubs. This year's conference is being held under the theme "Partnership in the AI Era for a Brighter Future."

During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet delivered a keynote address, highlighting Cambodia's vision and commitment to advancing artificial intelligence for sustainable development and international cooperation.

The 2026 conference is expected to attract more than 350,000 participants from around the world, reinforcing WAIC's position as a premier global platform for collaboration, innovation, and dialogue on the future of artificial intelligence.
