(Phnom Penh): Ministry of Interior Spokesperson Touch Sokhak said Cambodia will strengthen and expand international cooperation to combat online scams, which are recognised as global transnational crimes.

Speaking at the 5th Phnom Penh Forum on Thursday (Aug. 13) on “ASEAN Centrality amid Strategic Rivalry and Global Uncertainty,” Touch Sokhak said Cambodia welcomes cooperation with all friendly states and supports collective action based on respect for national sovereignty.

He underlined that online scams require comprehensive and sustained international cooperation, as transnational crime increasingly shifts from traditional to digital forms.

He added that Cambodia has established cooperation frameworks, including Memorandum of Understanding and joint task forces, with countries inside and outside ASEAN. These include China, the United States (through the FBI), South Korea, Australia (through the AFP), Indonesia, Viet Nam, and Thailand, as well as various international organisations.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to combating online scams, noting that the country is also a victim of this global crime.
