(Phnom Penh): The United States reaffirmed its commitment to deepening defence cooperation with Cambodia as bilateral relations continue to gain momentum.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Elbridge A. Colby, Under Secretary of Defence for Policy at the US Department of War, at the Peace Palace on Friday (Aug. 14).

During the meeting, Colby welcomed the progress in US-Cambodia relations, particularly in the defence sector, and described Cambodia as an important partner of the United States. He reaffirmed Washington's readiness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations and reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to advancing military cooperation, including preparations for the Angkor Sentinel joint military exercise in 2027.

He said military exercises and training would not only strengthen defence capabilities but also foster closer ties and friendship between the two countries’ armed forces.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also expressed appreciation to President Donald J. Trump and the US government for their role in facilitating the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement of 26 October 2025 and for continued efforts to support peace between Cambodia and Thailand.

He also briefed Colby on the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to resolving border issues through peaceful means and in accordance with international law, relevant conventions and treaties, and existing bilateral agreements.
