(Kratie): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that the government has no immediate plans to merge or expand ministries, stressing that public administration reform will instead focus on improving the efficiency, internal structures, workflows, and human resources of existing institutions.

Speaking at the inauguration of three road sections in Kratie province on Tuesday (Aug. 25), the premier stated that public administration reform must be measured by tangible results and operational efficiency rather than the sheer number of ministries.

The prime minister explained that ongoing functional reviews could lead to adjustments within ministries, particularly at the general-department level, including downsizing certain units or establishing new ones where necessary to improve performance.

However, he underlined that such internal adjustments do not mean changes to the overall number of ministries, which will remain unchanged for the time being.

The prime minister noted that countries structure their ministries differently based on political, administrative, and technical considerations. Cambodia, he said, will pursue reforms suited to its own national circumstances rather than simply adopting models used elsewhere.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also urged officials across ministries and institutions to remain confident in their roles and concentrate on improving performance and service delivery.

He reiterated that the government's immediate priority is to make existing institutions more efficient and effective, rather than restructuring ministries or changing the size of the cabinet.
