(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Commerce has urged a 12-member Cambodian youth delegation attending the International Festival of Youth 2026 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, to serve as ambassadors for Cambodia’s “Made in Cambodia” products and Geographical Indication (GI) products on the international stage.
The call was made on Tuesday (Sep. 9) by Kem Sithan, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, representing Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, during a meeting with the Cambodian Alumni Association from the Soviet Union and Russia, led by Dr Nhel Ratha, and the Cambodian youth delegation.
Kem Sithan underscored that youth and human capital development are central to Cambodia’s national development under the Pentagonal Strategy. He highlighted ongoing institutional reforms to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of public services, including the use of data visualization and the systematic publication of information and achievements through the Ministry’s official website and e-library.
He also stated the importance of peace in creating opportunities for Cambodian youth to study abroad, gain knowledge and expertise, and return to contribute to national development. He attributed Cambodia’s progress to the peace and leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, with national development now continued under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
Kem Sithan urged youth to study the “Made in Cambodia” movement and understand that promoting Cambodian products is not merely about increasing domestic consumption. It is about strengthening national identity, product quality, consumer trust and Cambodia’s competitiveness in international markets.
He noted that stronger domestic production can create jobs, generate added value, strengthen supply chains and reduce dependence on imported products.
The Ministry has also established the “Cambodia Trade” e-commerce platform to connect Cambodian products with international buyers and consumers. The platform currently features hundreds of products, including approximately 452 souvenirs and handicrafts, 415 food and beverage products, 217 apparel and footwear products, and 216 soap and cosmetic products.
Cambodian rice, processed mangoes and cashew nuts have also gained access to major international markets, including the United States, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom. They are available through major retail chains such as COSTCO, E.Leclerc, Carrefour, Cold Storage, AEON, FamilyMart and DFI Retail Group.
The Permanent Secretary of State further encouraged the delegation to promote Cambodia’s GI products, including Kampot Pepper, Kampong Speu Palm Sugar, Koh Trong Pomelo, Takeo Lobster, Kampot-Kep Salt, Kampot-Kep Fish Sauce and Mondulkiri Wild Honey.
He said sharing these products internationally allows people from other countries not only to experience Cambodian products but also to better understand the Kingdom’s agriculture, traditions, lifestyle, culture and national identity.
He called on the youth to act as economic and trade ambassadors, explaining not only that Cambodia has quality products, but also where the products come from, how they are produced, what value they offer and why international consumers should choose them.
The International Festival of Youth 2026 in Yekaterinburg will bring together around 10,000 young people, including 5,000 international participants from approximately 195 countries. The 12 Cambodian delegates are expected to use the platform to showcase Cambodia’s economic potential, local products and trade opportunities, helping promote a broader image of Cambodia beyond tourism and cultural heritage.
