(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia’s Win-Win Policy ended decades of civil war, restored national unity and territorial integrity, and brought total peace to the country for the first time in 500 years.
The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 5) while presiding over the opening of the 25th General Assembly of the Veterans Confederation of ASEAN Countries (VECONAC) at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
“Through the Win-Win Policy, Cambodia ended decades of civil war, regained national unity and territorial integrity, and achieved total peace for the first time in the last 500 years of our history,” Samdech Thipadei said.
The premier highlighted the role of veterans and pensioners in implementing the policy, saying their embrace of national reconciliation and the Win-Win spirit helped Cambodia achieve complete peace without firing a single bullet.
He said the “Thank Peace” slogan was introduced to encourage people to value and safeguard peace while expressing gratitude to veterans and pensioners whose sacrifices helped lay the foundation for the country’s stability.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that peace restored Cambodia’s international standing and enabled the country to redirect resources towards socioeconomic development, contributing to average annual economic growth of more than 7 per cent for over two decades before the COVID19 crisis.
