(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said more than 2.25 million women had benefited from government cash support from pregnancy until their children turn two as of the first half of 2026.

Speaking on Wednesday (Oct. 7) while presiding over the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh, the premier said the programme covers women from various groups, including workers, Equity Card families, civil servants, police officers and detainees.

“In the first half of 2026, we had more than 2.25 million beneficiaries whom the state supports from pregnancy until their children reach the age of two. This also includes women in prison,” he said.

“I believe that even if a mother has committed an offence, her child has done nothing wrong, so we must provide support to them,” he added.

The prime minister said beneficiaries increased by 103 per cent from around 1.1 million in 2023.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the programme aims to protect maternal and child health from pregnancy through early childhood as part of Cambodia’s broader preventive healthcare efforts.
