(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted government assistance for about 700,000 people affected by the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, including displaced families, fallen soldiers, disabled veterans and frontline troops.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Oct. 7) while presiding over the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei said more than USD 1.6 million has been allocated for mine and unexploded ordnance clearance, while 1,606 families have received support to repair damaged homes.

For families unable to return home, the government has invested USD 59 million to build nearly 5,000 houses and related infrastructure across four provinces.

The premier added that added that 61 financial institutions have deferred USD 200 million in loan payments for affected civilians, while 77 institutions deferred nearly USD 50 million for military personnel. Twenty-three institutions have also cancelled debts owed by fallen soldiers.

According to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, the government is also providing financial and housing assistance to families of fallen soldiers, alongside education support for their children.
