Phnom Penh (FN), Feb 19 – Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)’s spokesman Chum Sounry confirmed on Monday afternoon that Germany did not impose any visa suspension toward any specific groups of Cambodian senior officials and their families.

The confirmation was made in response to the Phnom Penh Post’s article published on Monday morning entitled “Germany puts pressure on Cambodia, ending preferential visa treatment for Hun family and high-ranking officials”. "There is no official letter from the German government over visa suspension," said Chum adding that “there was no controversies between the Cambodian and German governments nor any pressures taken by German side”.

So far, only the US State Department has issued a formal announcement on visa suspensions for Cambodian government officials and their families. The pressure aims to restore political climate in Cambodia.
