Phnom Penh (FN), March 9 – South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia, Oh Nak Young, said that the Korean government supported the initiative of Prime Minister Hun Sen in transforming Mekong-Korea Foreign Ministers' Meeting to Mekong-Korea Summit.

The ambassador’s remark was made in a meeting between Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn and Ambassador Oh Nak Young on Friday held at the ministry in Phnom Penh, according to Chum Sounry, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his warm welcome to Oh Nak Young's return in diplomacy to Cambodia again after he left Cambodia for the past 10 years. The minister believes that Oh Nak Young's work experience and talent will contribute to his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

The Ambassador is interested in the rapid economic growth that Cambodia has achieved over the past years. He highly appreciated the progress in friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1997, which has lasted for 21 years as of today.

South Korean Ambassador Oh Nak Young also appreciated Cambodia's active role as a coordinator for ASEAN-Korea relations. He also expressed support toward Cambodia for the upcoming ASEAN-Korea Summit.

Senior Minister recalled the correct decision of the premier to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1997 amid countless hardships. He said that Cambodia will seek cooperation with other ASEAN countries to achieve Mekong-Korea Summit.
