Siem Reap (FN), April 4 - Ministerial Meeting for the 3rd Mekong River Commission Summit was held on Wednesday in Siem Reap, presided over by Cambodian Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology and Chairman of the National Mekong Committee of Cambodia, Lim Kean Hor, to review the results achieved by the MRC from the 2nd MRC Summit in Vietnam.

The meeting was attended 150 people, including the Ministers of Natural Resources and Environment and Chairmans of the National Mekong Committee of Laos, Thai, Vietnam, dialogue partners' representatives from China and Myanmar as well as representatives from local and development partners.

The meeting is a platform to review and approve the Draft of Siem Reap Declaration on ministerial level , and to listen to the interests of enhancing its joint efforts and partnership from Ministers of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Vietnam and representatives from China, Myanmar, and MRC's development partners and the General Secretariat of ASEAN.

Minister Lim Kean Hor expressed pleasure to see an active and open dialogue during meeting and appreciate all stakeholders who provided valuable input into the discussions on the important issues of cooperation that contributed to the preparation and discussion for the 3rd Mekong River Commission Summit tomorrow.

Lim Kean Hor said that it is important that Heads of member countries of the Mekong River Commission reviewed the political commitment to the sustainable development; sustainable management of water and related resources of the Mekong; and prioritize strategies for the next four years until the 4th Mekong River Commission Summit, to be held in 2022.

The Mekong River Commission (MRC) is an intergovernmental organisation that works with the governments of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam to manage the shared water and related resources of the Mekong River for the sustainable development of the Mekong region. It is founded by the Mekong Agreement of 1995, building on previous cooperation through the Mekong Committee established in 1957.
